on Sunday, April 19th there will be a chess evening in the attic room SR 03-026 in building 51 starting from 5pm.

Everyone can come, no matter whether you are a beginner or a more experienced player. We can play classical chess, rapid, blitz, bullet, casual, variants like bughouse, anything goes.

We have enough chess boards. If you want, can bring analog chess clocks. There will be drinks for everyone! ^^

When registering for lectures, the big, all-important question is: Is the course any good? Is the teaching good or does it make you want to take a nap? Unfortunately, we cannot answer this question definitively. However, with the help of the teaching awards, you can find out which courses clearly are very good. Methodology

The course rankings of the faculty  lists the 5 best lectures per institute. The teaching award is given to the teacher with the best course. The ranking is calculated based on the results of the teaching evaluation. The lectures are ordered by (AWARD + GRADE') / 2 mit AWARD = 100 * NUMBER NOMINATIONS TEACHING AWARD / NUMBER RESPONSES and GRADE' = 100 * (4 - GRADE) / 3.

Corrections

Until the 13th of September 2025 the terms were wrongly given as winter semester 2024/25 and summer semester 2025. Summer semester 2024 and winter semester 2024/25 are the correct semester and have been updated.

The mathematics student council and the TF student council invite you to the traditional Epsilon Ball. From Viennese Waltz, Disco Fox to Jive, all the typical standard and Latin dances will be played, so there is something for everyone. In addition to the dancing, the bar provides delicious refreshments. To maximize the ball feeling, we ask you to come in evening dress. Certain variations of the outfit due to the special date are date are welcome, but not a must.

The ball will take place on Thursday, October 31 from **8:00 p.m. in the Kinohörsaal, building 82 of the Faculty of Engineering. We are looking forward to your coming and a a great evening.

Everyone is invited, regardless of whether you are a beginner or a more experienced player. It is enough to know the rules of chess. We will play 5 rounds of Rapid (10+5) according to the Swiss system. This system ensures that players at the same level play against each other. We will use mobile phone apps as chess clocks. We recommend the Chess Clock App  . If you would like to bring an analogue chess clock, you are also welcome to do so. If you have further questions, you can join our WhatsApp group  .

In the week from the first to the seventh of April, DevWeek took place in our student council. This is a project week in which we work on self chosen projects. The idea behind it is to support each other in the process and to further develop the student council infrastructure. In this article, I would like to introduce the projects that have been conducted this semester.

As you can see in the cover picture, we made a lot of changes to the design of the student council room this time. The coffee counter was dismantled, the furniture rearranged and pictures and a photo wall were made.

The digital infrastructure has also been expanded. The exam database now has a new feature that allows you to upload solution suggestions to past exams. This website and the student council’s cloud have been partially restructured and work has been done on a social media platform called “Stick it to the Man”, which can be used to document where student council stickers are located.

Of course, there were also social events in the evenings. We organized a Kubb tournament and a campfire evening and also feasted together :)

All in all, it was a very enjoyable and productive week and we are looking forward to making use of the new tools and the freshly designed room. Please feel free to come by and join us, we are alwys happy about motivated people who will continue to shape the student council in the future!

Registration: Unlike last time, you will not be required to register this time. However, we would like you to join the ChessTournament WhatsApp group  , so we can estimate the number of participants. Furthermore in the group, we are happy to answer any question you might have regarding the tournament.

Prof. Hannah Bast has provided the student council with a new room on the 2nd floor of building 51 (51-02-29). The room is open to all students throughout the week and is primarily intended to be used for studying and group work.
In addition, the GruLa currently takes place on Fridays from 2 to 6 pm in BSPACE. Here, student representatives from higher semesters can help you with questions about first semester lectures (including Maths 1, Introduction to Programming and Computer Networks).
So that we can use the room in the long term, we ask you to be considerate - take care of the furniture, clear away your garbage and don’t be unnecessarily loud so as not to disturb people working in the surrounding rooms.
If you have any ideas on how we can better equip the room, please send an email to fs@fachschaft.tf.uni-freiburg.de or come along to the student council meeting on Mondays at 6.15 pm.

Behind the scenes, efforts are currently underway with the aim of acquiring an Overleaf Premium licence as a university. To determine the need, we ask you to fill out this survey: https://terminplaner6.dfn.de/en/e/0ff4a747733cdd8a75ca185e5bf5b17f-509478  .

The more people who take part, the better we can assess the need. In addition, a large participation strengthens the demand for such a licence.

Overleaf  is an online LaTeX editor with which you can work together on LaTeX documents. We don’t want to list all the premium features  here. The most important features of the premium version are

• larger groups
• Change history, versioning and tracking
• Synchronisation with Git, Github and Dropbox

We have decided on a new date for the student council meetings. The meetings will take weekly on Mondays at 6 pm c.t. in the Fachschaftsraum (051-00-028) from now on.

Everyone is welcome to join us in our meeting, e.g. for joining the discussions or just get a look for what we are doing.

Please note, that the meetings are usually held in german. The first meeting of every month will be held in english. We all also speak english and enjoy practicing our english skills. ;)
